Trip to the Pound
by Dan Brandenburg
From time to time, I enjoy heading to the local Humane Society to give some needed attention to the animals. Usually I’ll drop a few bucks into the donation bin and grab a handful of cookies to give to the dogs. Sometimes the pound is a little depressing, but even in the gloom, it always feels good to watch how excited the animals get.
Missing Summer, Hating Winter
by Dan BrandenburgI’m definitely a summer-oriented guy. I love the mixture of green grass, blue skies, warm breezes, etc., Today, it’s January 4 and it’s an usually warm day of 28F. I can’t head out and take photos of colors — rather, I can go out and capture gray skies, dead brown trees, and trampled snow-mud mixtures. Winter seasons always make me want to escape to warmer climates — but by the time I’m prepared to do so, it’s summer again and I’m happy.
Puppy Love 2 Video
by Dan Brandenburg
This is a video I did of my dog Tyson and his playmate, Maya. I was just having some fun. As my friend Justin pointed out, I don’t know which is better, the dogs having a good time or the fast-paced, play-by-play spanish narration.
I’m Free! New WordPress Rocks
by Dan BrandenburgSo I tried WordPress years ago (version 1 or something) and, well, I really didn’t like it. The templates were primative and it felt like it took hours and days to do anything as far as customization goes. This new version of WordPress, on the other hand, totally rocks. Unique templates are easy to locate and install and the fact that I can use plugins to customize the page is incredible. In fact, I don’t think WordPress could be much easier (unless it came paged with an uber-geek who could just do everything on command).
Hopefully I’ll soon get the hang of adding some more stuff in the near future. The site isn’t live yet, but I hope to have everything ready to go within a week — two at the most.
Moved to a new server, site
by Dan Brandenburg
Thank God! It took forever, but after years with ReliableHosting, I moved to Godaddy this summer to host my websites. Thanks Justin for suggesting the most confusing, unorganized, feature-pimping website on the planet — GRRRRR I hated Godaddy. Fortunately, while I was experimenting with my move to Godaddy, I also began working on hosting another site at Hostmonster. Wow….Hostmonster’s administrative interface is simple, clear, effective, and not cluttered with 100,000 suggestive sales ads.
Anyway, after days of messing with Godaddy and getting everything prepared for yet another move, I’ve moved almost all of my sites over to Hostmonster and I couldn’t be happier. The only good thing I can say about Godaddy is that they have INCREDIBLE customer service. If you need help doing something, a quick call will let you find a customer service rep who will walk you through every step of their confusing administrative screens. On the flip side, I’d much rather have a simple interface and just make the changes myself rather than wasting cell phone minutes.
Oh well…the site is launched now. Now it’s time to configure and personalize. Wish me luck.
